MacEwan University, officially known as Grant MacEwan University, is a public undergraduate institution located in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Established in 1971 as a community college, it became a degree-granting institution in 2004 and achieved full university status in 2009, later rebranding simply as MacEwan University in 2013. Serving nearly 18,900 students, the university offers more than 55 programs through four faculties—Arts and Science, Fine Arts and Communications, Health and Community Studies, and Nursing—and two schools, including its School of Business. The main City Centre Campus spans six city blocks and is connected by indoor pedways, featuring facilities such as Allard Hall for fine arts, the Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness, and a modern student union building. The historic Alberta College Campus adds to its cultural offerings, particularly in music and performance. Known for small class sizes, a 1:17 faculty-to-student ratio, and an emphasis on hands-on learning, MacEwan provides opportunities for co-ops, internships, research, and field placements. Its athletic teams, the MacEwan Griffins, compete in U Sports’ Canada West conference. Combining an accessible, student-focused environment with the vibrancy of an urban setting, MacEwan University offers a well-rounded educational experience in the heart of Edmonton.
